This is a tour with details of an off-grid solar power installation I worked on a few years ago. I go over a system diagram, show the system itself, and then talk about the safety features including breakers/fuses, lightning arrestors, and bonding equipment to ground.

This system includes 2100watts of solar panels, a 10kW diesel generator, two Outback FM-80 charge controllers, two Outback inverters, an Outback Mate, a Xantrex TMA-500 battery status monitor, and 6 4volt, 1104amphour Surrette/Rolls lead acid deep cycle batteries.

What will be the cost of a solar system package for a small house hold which has a 500 watts load?

The question you have to ask is weather or not you want to be truely on your own or just reduce your reliance on the utility. If you are on your own your expenses go way up because you have to have the battery supply and a larger cell capacity to get you through a major winter storm where the sun don’t shine. (there should be a joke in there somewhere). The batteries, charger etc makes this type of system expensive. You would also want to convert to energy efficient appliances. On the other hand many people put in solar to reduce their impact on the grid. They cells they buy are just large enough to cover most of their load during the day or maybe a little more. Just enough so that in the long run their meter shows little consumption over time. Your local utility should also be able to give you a lot of help with the project since they want you do to it safely. Any power you put onto the grid gets stepped up to 12kV and so they want to ensure safety.

Here we can see all the components of a homemade solar water heater. It’s composed by a primary circuit and a secondary circuit. The primary circuit are composed by a solar panel made of a drawer of polyestirene sandwich. Inside this drawer I installed a spiral hosepipe. The darwer and the hosepipe were black matt painted to catch more energy from the sun. The darker the paint, the hotter the water. The water that we can see surrounding de tank flows by this spiral and is heated by the sun. The punp only works when the temperature is hight enough and it works 15 min. rests 30 min, in order to save electric energy.
In the secondary circuit we have a expansion tank to protect the machine from hot water expansion, a tank from a old electric water heater (upsidedonw) is used to store 80 litres of drinking water at 45 º Celcius. The system works perfect from may to september, in Badajoz, in the south of Spain, and the rest of the year it helps the gas water heater.
Aquí podemos ver los componentes de una instalacion casera para generar agua caliente. Se compone de captador solar, depósito acumulador, vaso de expansión, bomba recirculadora, etc. Funciona perfectamente, salvo en los días nublados, cuando hay que poner el calentador de gas butano.

outline the advantages and disadvantages of using solar energy to heat the
water rather than an a immersion heater. a total of 6 marks. can you helpme answer this for my physics? thankyouuu!:)x

The immersion heater used electricity which has probably been
produced by power stations that burn fossil fuels. The main advantage
of the solar heater is that it uses a renewable energy source rather
than fossil fuels. This means that no pollutants such as carbon
dioxide and sulfur dioxide are released by the combustion of fuels.
Carbon dioxide contributes to the greenhouse effect and sulphur
dioxide contributes to the formation of acid rain.
The main disadvantage of the solar heater is that it only heats the
water when daylight is available. On cloudy days the solar heater might
not produce sufficient hot water for the family.
The graph shows that the solar heater will only heat sufficient
water between April and September. This means that it must be
supplemented by another source of heat such as an immersion heater
during the rest of the year.

Pretty much what I wrote but with more detail. Just sum it up. x
